A COLLABORATIVE POST
WRITTEN BY BOOM BOX POST

2021 was a year full of adaptation and learning a new hybrid form of remote and in-person work and life. Here at Boom Box Post, we began to master the new work flow as we focused on editorial of new shows and honed in on our skills. See some reflections from the team below!

A Highlight From This Year

Jessey: Getting to work on one of my favorite shows again!
Tess: I hadn't been going out much at all, but my friends and I all got our final vaccinations and ventured to the Haunted Hayride in Griffith Park this Halloween. It was so nice to be back out in the world. We had so much fun, so I'm looking forward to more safe adventures in 2022.
Brad: We garnered a handful of awards nominations, as well as put out some stellar content, all while working from home! That's a pretty cool accomplishment, if you ask me.
Jacob: It was a blast to mix Crossing Swords Season 2!
Tim: Getting nominated for a Golden Reel alongside my incredible coworkers for our work on The Loud House was definitely a highlight! Also, I got to experience my first in-person BBP Christmas party this year!
Jeff: This year my kids were back to school in person, a big change from the home schooling of 2020. I couldn't be more thankful for their teachers and the wonderful community we have in Culver City of supportive friends and neighbors. It makes it so much easier for me to head out to work at Boom Box each morning knowing they are happily in class, learning so much every day.

Kate: I had a baby during the pandemic and this year, he learned to walk and started to talk! It was amazing to see him blossom as we started to venture out into the world again after getting vaccinated. On the work front, I have loved seeing office42 architecture’s vision of our new facility turn into a reality. They have really embodied everything that we believe as a company in the new space. It’s light, open, and I can already feel the creative juices flowing in there!
Natalia: Working on such great shows throughout the year.
Katie: It was so wonderful finally getting to see everyone after almost two years at the holiday party! I've definitely been looking forward to that moment all of 2021.
Zanne: The best part of my year was joining the Boom Box Post team! I've learned so much about audio post-production and have met so many wonderful and talented people.

A Goal For 2022

Jessey: Staying "in the zone." With everything going on in the world sometimes it's hard to really stay in that creative mindset. My goal next year is to always be mindful of that feeling of being in that zone and figuring out ways to keep myself focused in that headspace.
Tess: Have more fun than the previous two years!
Brad: Break in the new studio!
Jacob: Looking forward to finding some awesome lunch spots close to the new BBP Verdugo building.
Tim: I really want to work on becoming a faster/smarter editor!
Jeff: In 2022, we will be opening the doors to our new facility, Boom Box Post Verdugo. It's been years in the making and is really a game-changer for us. I can't wait to share the new space with our team and our incredible clients.

Kate: My goal is to find a way to safely begin to collaborate in person with our clients and staff this year. I can’t wait to see all of my friends again at work!
Natalia: Set aside time to read each day, either fictional or about sound design.
Katie: I'm really looking forward to working with teams in person. It will definitely take some adjusting getting back into the office after so much time at home, but I can't wait to see the new office and all of my lovely coworkers regularly!
Zanne: My goal for 2022 is to cook my own meals at home more often.

One Thing You Love About The Holidays

Jessey: Seeing Christmas through my daughters eyes. Nothing tops that. Christmas cookies are a close second though.
Tess: Being with friends and family!
Brad: If you can find it, snow!
Jacob: I love Christmas cookies.
Tim: Growing up we used to always go cut down our Christmas tree the day after Thanksgiving. My brother hated the tradition because I would make everyone walk around the tree farm in the freezing cold for hours and hours. If I could have a Christmas tree year-round, I would!
Jeff: For me, the holidays are all about FOOD! I love cooking for friends and family and have a particular fondness for my wife Corey's chocolate holiday bark.

Kate: I love the music! I play carols on the piano for my kids, just like my dad used to do. in the evening, we take walks with the stroller after dinner to check out the holiday lights and I play classic holiday music on my phone to amp up the cheer.
Natalia: Spending time with my family and dog. My family is not in the United States, so it's nice to have a holiday where we can all meet up.
Katie: I love the atmosphere of the holidays! The cold weather, smell of fresh pine, and all of the twinkly Christmas lights. It's my favorite time of the year!
Zanne: My favorite tradition is eating black eyed peas for good luck on New Year's Day! My mom has the best recipe.
