ETHER is an electromagnetic field receiver — essentially a wide-band “anti-radio.” Rather than tuning to one radio station or frequency, it captures a huge swath of the electromagnetic spectrum (from very low to very high frequencies) all at once.
Essentially, you turn Ether on, wave it around, and it picks up all of the sound we can’t hear with the naked ear - WiFi Signals, radio transmissions, power lines, lighting. It brings magnetic fields and radio waves to light. WILD!

We thought this would be a great opportunity to share some stories behind the sound editorial on these two fantastic projects via interviews with Supervising Sound Editors Jeff Shiffman and Brad Meyer.
We recently finished construction on our brand new post sound facility in Burbank, CA. One of our top priorities was to have multiple mix stages under our roof, all of which ready for Dolby Atmos. The way we saw it, we might as well be on the forefront of this emerging format. Building a mix stage is challenging enough, but adding in the extra Atmos considerations meant we would be faced with lots of opportunities to learn. Lucky for us, we are all about continuing to learn here at Boom Box Post! It’s in that spirit that I want to share with you some of the details of our journey.
Natalia was given the challenge of creating the sound design for a character’s superpower transformation sequence. Natalia describes her process and the inspirations that led to her successful sound build. Read more to find out how she did it!
It can be both an exciting and terrifying feeling being a new editor. On one hand, you are thrilled to start editing on a project! On the other hand, you don’t know where to begin…I interviewed a few editors on our team who know exactly how you’re feeling and can give you some insight on their editorial approach.
It’s easy to get caught up in the hustle of the daily grind. Emails, texts, Slack messages, reminders and more are constantly competing for my attention during the workday (and often in the evening or or weekends). Are we truly meant to be on call this much? That’s a topic for another day! But what I do know is that in the race to pivot from one task to another, often times mistakes can be made, which leads to time wasted, not gained.
We recently received a request to write a post on how we’ve been dealing with the global pandemic. While I am a bit worried our audience may be exhausted by COVID-19 coverage, I think it’s important to share our experience in this time with one another. With that in mind, I hope this post brings some information your way about work from home workflows as well as our unique perspective as a boutique post production studio dealing with the crisis. I’m also hoping it may spark some new conversation about how we are all dealing with this creative field while isolated from one another. So let’s dive in!
