A COLLABORATIVE POST
WRITTEN BY BOOM BOX POST

We recently brought on a new Boom Box Post apprentice. It is our pleasure to introduce AzMarie Livingston! We had a chance to ask her a few questions to better get to know her.

What sparked your interest in sound for Television/Film?

While acting on the hit scripted music series Empire on Fox, I oftentimes have to record ADR in post production for scenes. I would also sit in on recording sessions when one of my fellow cast members recorded music for the show. Over the five years of filming on that particular project, I gained an interest in the recording & mixing process. I’d sit in sessions when I could to absorb as much as possible.

How did you find out about the apprenticeship?

I found out about Boom Box Post by searching online for Audio Production apprenticeships. After months of doing this search I came across the job advertisement for the Boom Box Post apprenticeship and submitted my resume in hopes of being chosen for the opportunity to learn from veterans in the post production field.

What do you hope to gain from this apprenticeship?

I hope to gain industry experience in post production, learning the process from start to finish on how a project is edited, mixed, revised & delivered to clients. I also hope to gain the confidence to complete work independently on projects I work on.

Do you have a favorite sound or sound effect?

One of my favorite sounds is the peaceful vibration of a waterfall. Another sound is the contagious laughter of a baby. It's hard to resist a child's giggle and not put a smile on one's face!

Which lesson are you looking forward to the most?

Honestly, I am looking forward to all of the lessons. Every part of the post production process is important and I believe knowing about them all will help in the workflow. However, I do look forward most to pre-dubbing and observing a mix.

What was your favorite class you took while in school?

That’s kind of tough because I took a few courses that I really enjoyed at Full Sail. One of my favorites would be the Audio Post Production course. The project assigned for this course was called ‘The Blacksmith’ and I had to implement all of the background/ambience, design and implement sound effects for weapons & burning torches, add Foley, and to record & mix in dialogue for a hybrid film/video game project.

What are the three things you would bring with you to a deserted island?

If I were on a deserted island I’d bring my fiance, my laptop to create, and seasoning for the food we caught and prepared.

If you could have a fictional character (movie, TV show, or book) be your friend, who would it be?

If I could have a fictional character be my friend it would probably be Aang from Avatar the Last Airbender. He’s the master of all the elements, extremely wise, remains youthful, and always has a lesson for me to learn from. He’s also has a really cool flying bison!

Thank you AzMarie! Boom Box Post is extremely excited to have you, and we are looking forward to working with you during your apprenticeship process!
