Sometimes it’s good to revisit the highlights! Our Inside Sound Design series has given us the chance to pull back the curtain and share the creative process behind some of our favorite projects. From robots and dragon vocals to haunted vehicles and portals, these posts showcase the techniques, tools, and creativity that bring our sound to life. Whether you missed them the first time around or just want a fresh dose of sound design inspiration, here are five of our favorites (plus a bonus honorable mention) that are worth another look!
1. Inside Sound Design: The Sound of Shellraiser

Go on a ride with Supervising Sound Editor, Brad Meyer for a look into how he transformed ordinary car sound effects into a whole new character. This post is complete with demos and detailed write-ups on the different processes Brad used to augment source material with creative monster elements.
4. INside Sound Design: Creating an Evil Portal!
Are you a fan of sci-fi sound design? Travel back in time to when Sound Effects Editor Mak Kellerman showed us his design process for creating an Evil Portal. Learn about Nebulous, a digital theremin instrument app that Mak used to layer with other sci-fi elements to create immersive portal design.
5. Inside Sound Design: High Powered Energy Skates
If you’re a fan of the sound design in Tron then you’ll love this post by Sound Effects Editor Kevin Hart. Kevin walks us through his process of how he created a set of unique electrified skating sounds for a new character on a past series. We rarely discuss the workflows and design capabilities of DAWs other than Pro Tools, but Kevin reveals some of the audio effects processing he used in Ableton Live to achieve this design!
