WRITTEN BY KATE FINAN, CO-OWNER OF BOOM BOX POST

A few weeks ago, Chad Anderson of Filmmaker U invited me to chat with him about sound for animation. Filmmaker U is a website that creates courses for film professionals to deepen and diversify their skillsets. So, as a huge proponent of being a lifelong learner, I was very excited to add the topic of animation sound to that knowledge base for their audience!

We sat down to discuss the how the workflow for animation sound unfolds differently than that for live action, how to balance music and the world of sound design in children’s films and television, and the simple steps we take here at Boom Box Post to promote diversity both here at our studio and in the industry in general.

I hope that you find it interesting!

*I would like to correct Chad’s introduction of me to say that I did not work on Captain Underpants, Invincible, or the Baby Shark Movie. Those were all done at Boom Box Post by incredible teams which did not include me. So shout out to the amazing BBP sound design and mixing professionals who did that noteworthy sound work!
