TDR Nova is an intuitive and user friendly free plugin made by the company Tokyo Dawn Records that could be a good replacement for your stock pro tools EQ plugin! It has a lot of cool features that can help you fine tune your audio. Let's take a look at some of its features!

The first thing you will notice with this plugin is that it has a built in spectrum analyzer which not only looks cool but it also helps visually find specific frequencies you are looking to adjust. The EQ itself features adjustable high pass and low pass filter options and 4 EQ bands. The EQ bands can be adjusted to be a bell curve or a low or high self. One cool feature that could be helpful for trying to eliminate a specific unwanted frequency is the Band Solo button. Clicking this allows you to listen to what is being adjusted in the specific selected band.

In addition to acting as an EQ, TDR Nova also has a built in compressor which can be added linearly or to a specific band. Like the Band Solo button, the compressor has a mode selection caled GR Delta on the right of the plugin to allow you to listen to the affected compressed signal.

Some other tips and tricks:

  • You can select multiple bands at once by “Shift” clicking more bands to make global compression EQ adjustments.

  • Right clicking the plugin window gives you the option to resize the window.

  • If you drag your EQ bands out of order you can click the “Order By Freq” button to re order them by number.

  • You can change the quality of the EQ at the top of the plugin window to cut down on your computers CPU usage.

The paid version of this plugin called TDR Nova GE, offers some additional features from the free Edition of TDR Nova. Some of those include,

  • An additional 2 EQ bands.

  • A dynamic EQ band compressor option which compresses the frequency only when it becomes too prominent as opposed to eliminating the frequency with EQ all together

  • Corrective EQ matching which can be helpful when different microphones are used or if you are wanting to match different audio to sound similar.
