A COLLABORATIVE POST

WRITTEN BY BOOM BOX POST

2020 may be over, but we aren’t out of the woods yet. Starting off a new year is always exciting because it feels like a reset. It’s nice to have a set time and date to mark the start of something new.

Apart from all the resolutions I make, I like to try and start a new year off by simplifying my approach to everyday life. I find that returning to the basics is much more beneficial than attempting to change my entire lifestyle overnight.

Some of my favorite basic everyday rituals include deep breaths and positive affirmations. I like to remind myself to practice these at the start of every new year to help preserve a relaxed mindset and keep motivated throughout the days following the holiday break.

Especially after the year we all had, don’t you think it’s important we start taking better care of ourselves? If so, keep reading for 5 tips to help you start 2021 stress-free!

5 Work From Home Tips to Help Reduce Stress

1. Pressure Points

Returning back to work after the holidays is always hard. A week or two off and a normal work day can be a complete shock to your mind and body.

While you were used to staring at a computer screen all day before the holidays, now a mere 30 minutes makes your eyes burn and gives you a headache. That vacation time wears off quickly, doesn’t it?

To help relieve some of the ache back into normal life, I like to utilize pressure points. Click here for a great step by step article I found on healthline.com that teaches you how to exercise your pressure points and relieve unwanted tension. My personal favorite is the union valley.

2. Ambience

I am a firm believer that one's space should be a sanctuary. I find that a messy/loud room can take a major toll on my mental health and often distracts me from my work.

At the beginning of 2020, a lot of our sanctuaries were ambushed by stay at home orders. What once was a calm living room has now turned into a bustling office. This is why it is so important to set the right mood for the space you occupy the most.

If the work you do allows for background noise, I recommend checking out ambient scenes on Youtube where you will find a variety of options to choose from. Here are a few of my favorites:

3. Essential Oils

Want to take it to the next level? Essential oils will become your best friend in 2021.

If you didn’t listen to our 2020 Holiday Gift Guide and ask Santa for an essential oil diffuser, it’s time to put those gift cards to good use and buy one for yourself! Wash away the stress of 2020 with relaxing lavender, recharge throughout the day with eucalyptus, and purify your space with tea tree oil.

4. Get Dressed

I know working from home has it’s perks (aka sweatpants), but I also know the majority of us are trying to practice healthier habits in the new year. I’ve found that getting ready in the mornings can help prepare me for the work day ahead. How does that saying go? “If you look good, you feel good.” Yeah, that. Why not give your sweats a break and try getting dressed a few times a week. Don’t believe me? Check out these articles that talk all about the benefits of getting ready in the morning:

5. Positive Affirmations

A simple mantra can help change your entire outlook on life. I believe repeating a word or a short sentence over and over again helps speak it into existence, making it a reality.

Talk yourself through a challenging task. Tell yourself you can do it and you can do it efficiently.

Losing motivation throughout the day? Remind yourself that you are capable of finishing the days work and doing a great job.

I feel like we are all talking to ourselves a lot more nowadays, especially working from home. Try speaking positivity into your space rather than littering it with mumbled frustration. You’d be surprised how much of a difference it can make!
