Boom Box Post at the 2017 Daytime Emmys!

While Boom Box didn’t bring home a statue from the Daytime Emmys this year, we were humbled to have been honored with two nominations for our work on Ask the Storybots:  Outstanding Sound Editing - Preschool Animated Program and Outstanding Sound Mixing - Preschool Animated Program.  We were so proud to see our fellow Ask the Storybots nominees at JibJab, Gregg and Evan Spiridellis, bring in a win for Outstanding Interactive - Enhancement to a Daytime Program or Series!  Congratulations to all Nominees and Winners, we hope to see you all again next year!

A Win for Boom Box Post at the 2017 MPSE Golden Reel Awards!

This year we were so excited to attend the 2017 Motion Picture Sound Editors Golden Reel Awards with the Boom Box Post team! We received two nominations in the category of Best Sound and Music Editing for Television Animation: Nickelodeon's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Nickelodeon's Animated TV movie Albert.  We were also nominated in the category of Best Sound and Music Editing for Computer Episodic Entertainment (Webisode) for Disney's Future Worm. With three nominations, a huge part of the team got to be included, which made the night so a ton of fun. Even more exciting was bringing home the win for Albert, a project we are so proud of (and have blogged about in the past). Here are some fun photo highlights. Thanks for a great night MPSE!

Announcing Boom Box Post Sound Libraries!

This week, rather than design tips and tricks or a how-to post on building your career as a sound editor, we have an exciting announcement to make!  We are knee deep in the creative stages of producing our first Boom Box Post sound library, which we will be releasing this spring.  This is a long-awaited next step in our business, and we are stoked to share it with you.

But, before we put the finishing touches on everything, we wanted to ask you a few very important questions--because you, our readers, are our biggest and best resource.  We don't want to put out anything that doesn't meet your fabulous expectations.  So, to help us out, would you please fill out this short survey about your sound library wants/needs/loves/hates?  Your expertise means more to us than you could ever know.

Looking Back at 2016

This year has been an amazing one.  We have done more business, engaged more sound design community members through our blog, and built a larger team and studio space than even we had dreamed (and we have MASSIVE dreams)!  Here's a look back at all that we accomplished in 2016.  We could not be more grateful for the opportunity to flourish in this community, and we hope 2017 is filled with even more opportunities to shine.

Boom Box Post Comic-Con 2016 Wrap-Up

We had a great time returning to Comic Con again this year!  We kicked off with the empowering Cartoon Creatives: Women Power in Animation panel, a discussion showcasing talented women and their experiences in animation.  On Friday we were excited to see our work showcased at The TMNT Return to New York Panel and the Disney XD Penn Zero: Part Time Hero and The 7D panel.  The creators of Future Worm and Pickle and Peanut kept us laughing all day long on Saturday with their antics, and we wrapped up the show with the first ever Boom Box Post Comic Con TweetUp.  Thanks to everyone who came out to all of the exciting events this year!  Enjoy some of these fun photos we took, and we look forward to seeing you all at Comic Con 2017!

Introducing Jacob Cook

To help with our continually growing and evolving business, we have had the pleasure of bringing on a new team member: Assistant Editor & Office Manager, Jacob Cook.  Jacob's smiling face will now be the first thing that you see when you enter our doors, and we are exciting to add someone with such joyful enthusiasm for sound to our crew.

As a recent graduate of Cal Poly Pomona's Bachelor of Arts in Music with an emphasis in music industry studies, he comes to us with a great base knowledge of recording techniques and a true passion for post-production sound.  He shares this passion on a bi-weekly basis through his own personal sound blog, which you can follow here.

Boom Box Post Attends Comic-Con 2015

This was Boom Box Post's first time attending Comic-Con International: San Diego, and it was spectacular!  Jeff and I reveled in the cosplay (and crossplay) photo ops, met amazing visual artists on the floor, attended panels for Disney's Penn Zero: Part-Time Hero and Star vs the Forces of Evil and Nickelodeon's TMNT, saw Nickelodeon's The Loud House screened for an audience of insanely enthusiastic children, and schmoozed with all of our favorite clients and friends from the past ten years.  It was an incredibly overwhelming, fantastically fast-paced, whirlwind of a weekend.  Check out some photo highlights below, and don't forget to read the captions to get the full experience.  We'll see you all again next year!

Changing the Face of Sound

Changing the Face of Sound

Last September, I stumbled upon an IndieGoGo page asking for donations to “Send WAM to the 137th AES Convention!”  Their plea for funds was told by an endearing indie music video with lyrics like:

Help send WAM to the the AES Convention,

Where we’ll see the latest audio inventions.

The largest expo of audio professionals,

WAM’s booth will make AES more accessible.

WAM stands for Women's Audio Mission, and it is “a San Francisco-based non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of women in music production and the recording arts.” Their page explains that “in a field where women are critically under-represented (less than 5%), WAM seeks to ‘change the face of sound’ by providing hands-on training, experience, career counseling and job placement to women and girls in media technology for music, radio, film, television and the internet. WAM believes that women's mastery of music technology and inclusion in the production process will expand the vision and voice of media and popular culture.”

Now, this was something that I could get behind.
